J. V. Barnet
J. V. Barnet was a Czech and Czechoslovak painter whose work moved between landscape, city, figure, still life and flowers. Educated in Prague and later in Paris, he developed a recognisable visual language built from expressive contour, broad brushwork and carefully balanced colour.
His paintings are at once direct and structurally considered. Blue often acts as an anchor, while brick red, pale green, white and warmer accents organise the surface into vivid relationships. Across streets, gardens, faces and bouquets, Barnet used line not simply to describe forms, but to connect them and give the whole image a distinct internal rhythm.

Line, colour and surface
Barnet's contour can be firm, mobile and intensely blue. It travels between objects, separates colour fields and creates relationships that do not depend entirely on ordinary perspective. Within that framework, paint may be thin and quiet or visibly impastoed, especially in flowers and expressive passages.
The result is a form of painting that remains accessible at first sight but rewards closer attention. A landscape can turn around a single path or tree. A still life can be held together by cobalt blue, zinc white and olive green. A bouquet can become a field of rhythm, pressure and light.
